Here’s a tip for improving your weight training routine. When working out, try to train with dumbbells, barbells and machines – in that same order.
When lifting weights, your stabiliser muscles – the smaller muscles that help to balance free weights – grow tired before your bigger muscles, says Charles Staley, a world-renowned American strength and fitness coach.
Therefore, aim to progress to exercise equipment that demands less use of your smaller muscles, as you become fatigued while training. You’ll be getting more out of your workouts that way.
